Family Weekends & After Camp

Family Workshops

At the conclusion of each session, Wellspring Texas hosts a Family Workshop Weekend. Since becoming a long-term weight controller is a complete lifestyle change, it is helpful if families are as supportive as possible and create an encouraging home environment for campers. Under the leadership of Wellspring clinical professionals, families are invited to become quick experts on what has occurred at camp, and what they should be doing at home to ensure continued weight loss.

Wellspring is so certain of the importance of a supportive home environment that an additional incentive is provided: the full cost of the workshop is refunded to families who attend.

Some highlights of Family Workshop Weekend are:

  • Families receive the tools that campers have been using at camp (self-monitoring journals, pedometers, calorie counters)
  • Parents commit to following the Wellspring program for the length of the workshop to help them understand the main components of the lifestyle change and what their child has experienced at camp
  • Family CBT sessions with behavioral coaches
  • Culinary and nutrition overviews and demonstrations
  • Planning for the transition home: how to support the returning camper over the fall and winter to maximize the probability of continued weight loss

Year-Round After-Care Program

Wellspring’s entire focus is on ensuring that campers return to a healthy weight within the year after camp. An important part of this is Wellspring’s unique year-round after-care program.

Wellspring’s online after-care program ensures campers stay in daily contact with Behavioral Coaches and the friends that they made at camp. Campers self-monitor, journal, set goals, and weigh-in. At the same time, their BC is closely monitoring the camper’s progress and providing feedback and support for the camper.

During the last week of Wellspring Texas, BC’s introduce campers to the after-care program. Campers who successfully complete the first three months of the year-round after-care program will receive a full refund of the cost of the year-round after-care program.

Wellspring is dedicated to campers’ success. That’s why if the site is used consistently (75% of the time) in the three months after camp, the cost of after-care is fully refunded. The support doesn’t stop there. After-care lasts until June 1, 2009.

Further, if other family members wish to use the after care site to participate throughout the fall (and help role model self-monitoring for their son or daughter), they can do so free of charge.
